Junior Lifeguard Camp

The dates are set for the 2015 Junior Lifeguard Camp in coordination with Kitty Hawk Kayak & Surf School and the Kill Devil Hills Ocean Rescue Squad. This was such a success last year that we are adding more dates to accommodate demand. This is a great opportunity for young people to find out what it takes to be a lifeguard in the Outer Banks, and start padding their resumes for a future job.

Session 3:   July 13th- July 17th
Session 4:   July 27th – July 31st
Session 5:   August 3rd – August 7th

Where: Kill Devil Hills Bath house, 103 S. Virginia Dare Trail

Time: 10:00 am – 4 pm

Cost: $215.00 (Payable to Kitty Hawk Kayak and Surf School)

Instructors: Kill Devil Hills Ocean Rescue Lifeguards

Details:  This weeklong Junior Lifeguard Camp camp will emphasize education, first aid and ocean safety.  Activities will include daily physical training, running and swimming, marine environmental education and board sports with Kitty Hawk Kayak & Surf School.  All participants must possess basic ocean swimming skills and be comfortable in the ocean environment.  Learn the ins and outs and see what it takes to be an ocean lifeguard this summer with trained Kill Devil Hills Ocean Rescue Lifeguards. Sessions will be limited to the first 12 participants per session.

Summer Camps on the Outer Banks

Check out our Coastal Explorer Summer Camps on the Outer Banks. The camp consists of a 5-day surf camp, 4 afternoons of kayak tours, an environmental based service project, Jr. Lifeguard Program with Kill Devil Hills’ oceanfront lifeguards and pizza party on Friday afternoon. Each participant will enjoy 4 kayak tours at different locations around the Outer Banks including the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, Roanoke Island, Nags Head Woods and the Kitty Hawk Maritime Forest Coastal Preserve. This is a feast of water-based recreation for young people that guarantees a summer camp experience of a lifetime!!! Camps run all summer long starting June 8th.

Please note that the schedule is subject to change dependent on weather. Cost $350 per person. Space is limited to 10 participants. Camps later in the summer will follow the same weekly itinerary as above.

-YMCA Kayak pool clinic or College of the Albemarle Kayak access clinic
-North Carolina Aquarium visit with a behind the scenes activity
-Ocean Lifeguard Clinic with Kill Devil Hills Ocean Rescue Squad
-Nags Head Woods Nature Conservancy Hike and clinic with naturalist
-Roanoke Island Festival Park Visit with Paddle around the Island
-Crabbing in the Albemarle Sound
